Thinking about the Journey
As I get closer to beginning my nursing career, I’ve considered many different specialties and I’ve found some that interest me the most. Labor and delivery, pediatrics, and flight nursing are my top three specialties. I’ve always had a lot of compassion for newborns and children, so that is what sparks my interest in labor and delivery. I like the fast-paced environment of flight nursing and how my shift could take me anywhere. I would like to know what a ‘day in the life’ of all three specialties are and how nurses in these specialties enjoy their job.
When I think of evidence-based practice, I think of reading research articles and gathering information from professionals with experience to provide quality care to patients. My different college classes have given me surface-level knowledge of EBP. I’m looking forward to getting a deeper understanding of evidence-based practice so I can apply it to my other classes and my nursing practice. Learning how to properly research topics and form topic questions will help me to write research papers in other courses. It will also help me to use evidence-based practice in real nursing settings to provide quality care for my patients.

Celine, it is good that you are keeping an open mind and considering a variety of specialty options. What you learn in EBP I (and later EBP II) will help you answer those “why” questions in the clinical setting and working case studies in your other courses.
